Make a ShortDoc - CALL FOR ENTRIES  

Edition 9 of the MegaCities-ShortDocs Citizen Film Festival is open officially from May 1st 2023 to January 15th 2024.

Register on this web site  and you will receive by email and WhatsApp all information about the festival.

By registering as early as possible, you get a proper guidance and counselling from our team and increase your chances of making a great ShortDoc.

Once your ShortDoc is ready, you will have to go to shortfilmdepot to upload your film (tutorial).

Your ShortDoc may be selected for our ceremony, awarded and take you to the Cannes Film Festival !

MegaCities-ShortDocs Film Festival, Edition 9. A festival of short documentary-films that highlight initiatives which seek to bring effective solutions to urban challenges and inspire people to take actions to improve the life of urban citizens in their city.

Your ShortDoc film must :

  • Show a challenge in your city (such as transportation, education, refugees, health, climate change…) and solutions or ideas of new initiatives that could tackle such issues. A challenge that is potentially a theme with social or environmental impact covered by one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals from the United Nations.

  • The ShortDoc must be shot in a urban environment.

  • Last no more than 4:00 minutes (including closing credits)

  • Integrate English subtitles.

Criterias​ :

  • Power of the solution in terms of inhabitants’ benefits and the challenges associated with it. Replicability of the solution.

  • The ShortDoc should either highlight an existing initiative or be a “whistle- blower

  • Quality of production and clarity of the messages, relative brevity and capacity for synthesis will be appreciated. The short video pitch should not be perceived as a pure advertising video.

  • Description of the initiative or start-up that proposed the solution and perspective of development (internationally if relevant).

Key Dates​ :

  • January 15th 2024 : deadline to register on our website and to upload your ShortDoc on shortfilmdepot.com.

  • February 15th 2024 : results of the pre-selection process of 50 films by our team.

  • March 15th 2024 : results of the selection process of 15 to 20 nominees by an international professional Jury.

  • May 22nd 2024 : the nominees are screened at the Paris Award Ceremony, and the winners are awarded.
     

  • May 24th 2024 : 3 of the winners are going up the steps of the Cannes Film Festival.
    Their films will be screened as part of the 8th Positive Cinema Week.

The Megacities-Shortdocs Festival Awards

  • The Best ShortDoc, in partnership with Positive Cinema Week, under the auspices of the Cannes Film Festival
    Rewards the best film of the edition shot in an urban environment
    1000 € for the ShortDoc Maker
    Invited to the Paris Award Ceremony and to the Cannes Film Festival (transport and accommodation).
    Going up the steps of the Cannes Film Festival.

  • The Best MegaCities-ShortDoc
    Rewards the best film shot in a megacity
    1000
    for the ShortDoc Make
    Invited to the Paris Award Ceremony (transport and accommodation).

  • The Best Student's ShortDoc
    Rewards the best film shot by a student
    1000 € for the ShortDoc Maker
    Invited to the Paris Award Ceremony and to the Cannes Film Festival (transport and accommodation).

Special Prizes from our partners

  • The Greater Paris Metropolis Prize, supported by Greater Paris Metropolis
    Rewards a film that promotes an initiative with a social and/or environmental impact, carried out by a collective or an inhabitant of the Greater Paris Metropolis, and filmed on its territory
    1000 € for the ShortDoc Maker

    Invited to the Cannes Film Festival (transport and accommodation).

  • The Happy Proximity Prize, supported by Chaire ETI Paris la Sorbonne
    Rewards a film which addresses urban challenges by encouraging debates on the need to rethink city design and living spaces
    1000 € for the ShortDoc Maker

​Other prizes could be added up.

The Total of the 3 Awards & 2 Prizes represent a total value of around 11 500€.


The Best MegaCities-ShortDoc Award is only open to ShortDocs shot in a megacity.

The Greater Paris Metropolis Prize is only open to ShortDocs shot in the Greater Paris area.
