Make a ShortDoc - CALL FOR ENTRIES  

Edition 8 of the MegaCities-ShortDocs Citizen Film Festival is open officially from February 11th to October 15th 2022.

1st Step : 

Register on this web site between Februrary 11th and October 15th and you will receive by email and WhatsApp all information about the festival. Do it as early as possible, in order to get a proper guidance and counseling from our team and increase your chances of making a great ShortDoc.

 

2nd Step :

Before October 15th, once your ShortDoc is ready, you will have to go to shortfilmdepot to upload your film (tutorial).

MegaCities-ShortDocs Film Festival, Edition 8. A festival of short documentary-films that highlight initiatives which seek to bring effective solutions to MegaCities’ challenges and inspire people to take actions to improve the life of MegaCitizens in their MegaCity.

Your ShortDoc film must :

  • Show a challenge in your MegaCity (such as transportation, education, refugees, health, climate change, …) and solutions or ideas of new initiatives that could tackle such issues. A challenge that is potentially a theme with social or environmental impact covered by one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals from the United Nations,

  • The ShortDoc must be shot in a city with more than 1million inhabitants. In the past, we only accepted films shot in “megacities” which is defined by the UN as any urban agglomeration having over 10 million inhabitants (check out the list on T&C).

  • Last no more than 4:00 minutes (including closing credits)

  • Integrate English subtitles: the subtitles must be integrated to the ShortDoc in the following pattern:

    • Police: Arial regular, size 50, position bottom centre, text colour white, background black with 50% opacity, size 11, roundness 9. (The subtitles must be kept on one line only, in the lowest part of the screen)

Criterias​ :

  • Power of the solution in terms of inhabitants’ benefits and the challenges associated with it. Replicability of the solution.

  • The ShortDoc should either highlight an existing initiative or be a “Whistle- blower

  • Quality of production and clarity of the messages, relative brevity and capacity for synthesis will be appreciated. The short video pitch should not be perceived as a pure advertising video.

  • Description of the initiative or start-up that proposed the solution and perspective of development (internationally if relevant).

Key Dates​ :

  • October 15th 2022 : Deadline to register on our website (link) and to upload your ShortDoc on shortfilmdepot.com. (tutorial)

  • November 2022 : results of the selection process of 15 to 20 nominees by an international professional Jury

  • December 1st to 15th 2022 : International projections of this year' ShortDocs, in partnership with the french institutes 

  • December 8 2022 : The Paris Award Ceremony, where the finalists (best ShortDoc Makers among the 15 to 20 nominees) will be invited and the winners awarded

Awards and Prizes :

  • For the Best ShortDoc Award, 1500 euros for the ShortDoc Maker (+ 1000 euros for  the Initiative Owner).

  • For the Most Positive ShortDoc Award in collaboration with Positive Cinema, 1000 euros for the ShortDoc Maker.

  • For the Best Student's ShortDoc Award, 1000 euros for the ShortDoc Maker.

  • For the Best Urban Initiative Prize,1 000€ for the initiative owner, or the collective behind the situation that had been denounced by the whistle-blower. 

  • For the  Greater Paris Metropolis ShortDoc Prize, 1000 euros for the ShortDoc Maker.​

  • For the 15 Minute City Prize, supported by the Chaire ETI Paris la Sorbonne, 1000 euros for the ShortDoc Maker. 

  • For the Urban Climate Crisis Prize, 1000 euros for the ShortDoc Maker. 

  • The Public Choice Recognition and the Public Sector Innovation Recognition are a special honorary titles.

The Total of the 3 Awards & 3 Prizes represent a total value of 11 500€.


The Awards (Best MegaCities-ShortDoc, Best Positive ShortDoc, Best Student’s ShortDoc) & The Prizes (The Greater Paris Metropolis, “15 Minute City” & “Urban Climate Crisis”) are open to ShortDoc Makers in all Urban agglomerations or single cities of more than 1 Million inhabitants
